LARKEY KINDRED PRODUCTIONS
Larkey Kindred is a brand new theatre company founded by Eliza Larkey and Charlotte Kindred. We are unapologetically ambitious young female theatre makers.
The Making of Fredrick the Great is our debut production. We know this is a HUGE play and we wanted to make something bold and exciting that we believe in.
WHY THE CAMDEN FRINGE?
For us, the Camden Fringe is an opportunity to develop our craft and find our audiences. We believe in the story of Frederick the Great, yet we are in the early stages of the show’s life. Having done Research and Development workshops at Guildford School of Acting, now taking the show to the Camden Fringe, we are so excited to keep developing the work further. This is only the beginning!
THEATRE MAKING on a budget?
We have enjoyed the problem solving of creating a show on zero budget. New skills have been learnt a long the way - Eliza has been photoshopping artwork, Charlotte has been spray painting props. Our set is 100% sustainable…aka we found all our props on the side of the road and repainted them for the stage! We have relied on the incredible generosity of other people including The Royal Oak for our rehearsal space, Justine Matthew for our artwork photgraphy, Gweniver Exton for the rehearsal and production photography, Camden Costumes for the crowns and Creators House for their studios. Most of all the time dedicated by incredible actors who have helped in bringing this show to the stage for the first time.
synopsis
The play follows Frederick’s rise to throne and 'greatness.' It oscillates between two parallel timelines in 1728 and 1740, recounting his teenage years and the months taking place after his accession to the throne. In 1728, we meet a young man who loves the flute, to speak French and despises all things military. In 1740, we follow the journey of an ambitious, new King who is weighed down by the pressure of Kingship and his past.
Along the way, we encounter all the real life people who were essential in shaping Fredrick as 'The Great,' including Voltaire, Maria Theresa and Hans Herman Von Katte.
